In 2014, a larger 3.5 ton track mounted, hydraulic driven, diesel powered rig was acquired for greater efficiency and quality of SPT sampling. This rig advances the borehole via a rotary head, wash bit and water recirculation system. Sampling consists of split-spoon sampling in conjunction with SPT testing, as well as undisturbed Shelby Tubes with a safety/trip automatic hammer as the percussion implement. Accessories also allow for rock core retrieval if desired.

Testing is carried out in accordance with ASTM D 1586 and ASTM D 1587. 

Acker Portable Percussion/Wash Boring Drill Rig

For sites where vehicle access is constrained due to terrain. We are capable of using a fully equipped, portable percussion/wash boring drill rig by any of the many contractors with whom we have built long-standing relationships over the years. The rig is capable of disturbed split-spoon sampling in conjunction with Standard Penetration Testing (SPT). As well as retrieving 75 mm diameter undisturbed Shelby Tube samples when required. Depth of borings to 40 m can be achieved with this equipment.
