Setup of pile load test – loaded bench, pile head, hydraulic jack, reference beams, dial gauges
Pile Load Tests - ASTM D1143/D1143M Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Static Axial Compressive Load, ASTM D3966 Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Lateral Load
These tests provide an indication of measured ultimate axial or lateral capacity of a pile already installed at a site. For this, a reaction frame is installed over the pile to provide resistance against the applied load. In our experience, the reaction frame is loaded using concrete beams. A hydraulic jack is then placed between the pile head and the reaction system to apply the load. A series of dial gauges or electronic sensors are then connected to the pile head and reference beams to measure settlements (movements) as the load is being applied to the pile.
The load is gradually applied to the pile in stages, incremental measurements of settlement are recorded at each stage until the required test load or failure is reached.
Plate load test setup under a truck – equipment includes plate, hydraulic jack, reference beam, pins, 2 dial gauges, steel blocks and loaded truck
Plate Load Tests - ASTM D1194 Standard Test Method for Bearing Capacity of Soil for Static Load and Spread Footings
This test provides an indication of the bearing capacity and settlement of the upper soil profile by applying a load to plate placed on the surface and measuring the deflection from each load increment. The setup is similar to that of the pile load test where the load is applied to a plate instead of a pile.
